February Dates to Celebrate:
Feb.3-Norman Rockwells Birth anniversary-Why don't you get a book of his work and show it to your residents and discuss his work.Ask if they remember the old Saturday Evening Post magizenes with his work on the cover....
Feb.8-The Boy Scouts of America were incorporated on this day in 1910.- Why don't you contact a local Boy Scout group and ask them to come in and play some board games with your residents, serve refreshments.

National Potato Lovers Month:
Why not have a Potato Party?
Have a" Dress the Potato Head "contest.Get a Mr.Potato Head game and blindfold the participants and give them a set time to try to make the face of the Mr.Potato Head.
Get different types of potato chips and have a sample tasting of each type,talk about which ones have the best flavor,etc.
Ask your residents about their favorite potato recipes.
Play a game and write on a white/chalk board all the things you can make with potatoes,for example:chips,potato salad,soup,
Another fun game is to write the word P O T A T O on a white/chalk board and see how many words the particpants can make out of the word.Some examples are:POT,OAT,TOO,AT,TOP,TAP.(you get the idea)
Chinese New Year- Have a New Years Party- Get blowers and hats,serve fried rice,won tons and hot green tea,do chinese new year trivia.(below)
National Cherry Month- Why not have a cooking class and make individual cherry pies.(below)
National Bird Feeding Month- Make easy and inexpensive bird feeders out of all those left over pinecones from Christmas.
Just get a pinecone and put peanut butter all over it and set it out for the birds.
National Snack Food Month- Why not have a Snack Food  Mystery Auction?
Get different types of snack foods,twinkies,chips,pretzels,cookies,cracker,peanuts,etc.and
put each item into a brown paper bag and put numbers on the bags,then on an index card with the same numbers as the bags,write down clues or the slogans for each product in the bags.For example:For Lays Potato Chips-"No one can eat just one", For Chips Ahoy  Chocolate Chip Cookies" A ton of chips in each bite".Then give each participant some "funny money" to use to bid on the items they want.For each item,read the clue and have the participants bid on the items.

3 Tbsp. butter or margarine
1 pkg. (10 oz.) JET-PUFFED Marshmallows or 1 pkg. (10-1/2 oz.) JET-PUFFED Miniature Marshmallows
8 drops red food coloring
6 cups crisp rice cereal
Assorted decorating icings

MELT butter in large saucepan on low heat. Add marshmallows; cook until marshmallows are completely melted and mixture is well blended, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Add food coloring; mix well.
STIR in cereal. Press firmly into greased 15x10x1-inch pan. Cool completely.
CUT into heart shapes with greased 4-inch cookie cutters. Decorate with icings as desired.

Valentines Games:
Conversation heart game
You will need:
1 large bag of candy conversation hearts
This game is so easy. Just gather your residents and a bag of candy and form a circle at a table and hand your residents a handful of hearts.The first person puts down a heart then the next person adds to that saying on the first heart,and so on to form a funny sentence.This game is fun and tasty  cause you can eat the game when your done !!
Heart Fan Game:
You will need:
40-50 tissue paper hearts(pre- made)different sizes and colors.
Paper plates(one per resident)
Pie tin
Heres what you do:
Put the pie tin in the middle of the room on the floor, toss all the tissue paper hearts all around the pie tin.Seat your residents in a circle around the hearts,then give them each a paper plate and have each resident take turns fanning the hearts into the pie tin.Who ever gets the most in on their turn wins a prize.

You will need:
Punch bowl
2 litter of 7 up
Strawberry Ice Cream
Whipped Cream
Strawberry sprinkles
Just put the 7up in the punch bowl and put scoops of strawberry ice cream into the 7 up,top with whipped cream and then sprinkles.
Individual Cherry Pies:
You will need:
1 box of Graham Crackers
Muffin baking pan
Muffin paper cups
1 can Cherry pie filling
Just take the muffin pan and line with the muffin cups,then crumble graham crackers into bottom of cups for the crust,top with cherry filling.Thats it. No need to bake.Just take out of pan and eat.

1 pkg. (2-layer size) cake mix, any flavor
2 cups thawed COOL WHIP Whipped Topping
1-1/3 cups BAKER'S ANGEL FLAKE Coconut
Red food coloring

PREPARE and bake cake mix as directed on package, dividing batter evenly between 8-inch square cake pan and 8-inch round cake pan. Cool completely.
CUT round cake in half. Leave square cake whole. Place square cake on serving tray in diamond position. Using small amount of whipped topping to hold pieces together, place half circles against top 2 adjacent sides of square cake to create "heart."
FROST cake with remaining whipped topping. Tint coconut pink with red food coloring; sprinkle over frosting. Decorate with assorted heart-shaped candies, if desired. Store leftover cake in refrigerator.
